Lead Pastor

Jay Adkins

Pastor Jay has served FBC Westwego since November of 2002. He, his wife Michelle and their oldest of two boys (Quint) come to us from Ashland, Kentucky (their youngest, Canon, was born here in the Big Easy in 2004).  Jay is a fourth generation Baptist Preacher who holds an Associate degree in Business, a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry, a Master’s of Divinity specializing in Biblical Languages, a Master’s of Theology and is presently working toward a Ph.D. in Theology at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His desire is for God’s people to learn good theology and for the unsaved to be drawn to Christ through the good theology of their neighbors.

Jay currently serves as a member of the ERLC Leadership Council, as a co-editor of and contributor to SBC Voices, as a member of the BCM Advisory Council for Metro New Orleans and on the Administrative Committee of the New Orleans Baptist Association of Churches, previously chairing that team. He has served on the Board of Directors of Global Maritime Ministries, on the Board of Trustees of Louisiana College and is one of the original members of the Jefferson Parrish Sherriff’s office Chaplain Corps. Jay has been involved with SBC Disaster Relief ministries serving as a Chaplain, Blue Cap Volunteer and White Cap leader during Katrina. Jay is the Vice President of Beacon Ministries, Inc. (a speaking/preaching ministry which his father started) speaking for revivals, banquets, associational meetings and in Bible conferences. He has spoken in over 10 states and taught internationally in Lyon, Annecy, and Vienne France, Geneva Switzerland, in Dumaguete City, Valencia, Batinguel, and Sibulan in the Province of Negros Oriental, the Republic of the Philippines and in other areas of Southeast Asia.

Pastor Jay has no free time, but if he did, it would include much more song/hymn writing time with Quint, learning to fly an airplane and owning, and operating a Christian Jazz coffee house somewhere in the Quarter. The earthly joy of Pastor Jay’s life is found in the cherished gift he has discovered in his Fruitful Vine, and Olive Sprouts (Psalm 128). Michelle is a public school teacher/missionary while Quint and Canon are award winning musicians, academic scholars and faithful missionaries in their own right.
